Any fan of Top Gear knows that they dislike caravans. In America, we don't really have caravans like they do over there. We do have RVs. And these converted vans like that above. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and it got me thinking... what does Oppo think about these?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
To be entirely honest, when I hit it kind of big, I dream of having something like this. I want to get a Sprinter Van conversion like this (or even a Class B, like shown below) and drive around the country.
It seems like an incredible way to see the country. These are comfy, have a ton of stuff in them (depending on how you option them), and aren't too bad on gas.
And prices are around $130,000, which isn't that bad. You could live in one of these, very easily.
This here looks nicer than any apartment I can get for that price! So, Oppo, can you drive one of these and still be viewed as a gear head of sorts? Does anyone here even own one? I personally think these are very jalop, since you can drive around the whole country in them, even if they aren't that sporty. What do you think?

I prefer Class A (particularly the Newells , because bigger, faster, and fancier is better), but I think I like the Sprinter/Airstream.

In general I approve of camper vans. Got the chance to see the inside of one just recently..it was pretty cool. It was a GMC Savanna Conversion.
Never understood the appeal of a 5th wheel. Takes up so much room at your house man. At least your camper van could double as a fuel inefficient dd.

congrats on redefining 'go big or go home'

I like to think of it as, "Go big or take your home and go somewhere else."

I'd love to own an RV, but it would have to be one of those huge ones. Go big or go home.
That being said, my family uses a pop-up and it works just fine. That's really all I need.

What about one with a car in it?

I don't think RV's and minibuses are really comparable. Minibuses are for hauling bunch of people from A to B. RV's and smaller camper vans are for traveling around. I see these minibuses from time to time used as taxis and tourist buses.

Honestly, Id love one of these too! But.... they are wayyyy too big IMO. The actual "fun" of driving is lost because Id be a nervous wreck piloting something that big
I also cannot believe that is $1.7 million! Our local dealer usually has really expensive ones... but this is the most right now at $328,000 ...

I like those, but I feel that any "fun" of driving is lost because Id be nervous piloting that thing

I agree with you. But I didn't ask the question lol.

I guess picking this particular model was a bad example.. but I know a lot of stock looking vans like this become camper vans and thats what I was pulling at.

If you could afford it, you could afford to have someone else drive it for you while you binge eat and watch racing in the back.

Id love that only because I dont understand how people drive these things AND THEN TOW A DAMN CAR BEHIND IT!

My godfather actually built himself one out of Volkswagen LT van.

In another ridiculous reality where Im loaded and great with tools,
I want to take an old greyhound bus like this and custom make it into a badass RV

My parents paid $228,000 less for our house! And it's a lot bigger. Plus it doesn't drink diesel fuel like it's going out of style.

Pretty much same here! we have a 4 bedroom thats much bigger for about 1/3 of the cost!
BUT HOLY HELL I FOUND A GOOD ONE!
MSRP IS $863,000 but is on sale FOR ONLY $690,000!!!!!!!
This is bought by the guy who doesn't know what to do with his money at all!

Now that, that's a lot nicer than my house. That would be worth the cost of the previous RV if you ask me.

Depreciation is a bitch for these too!
Now only $11,500 , but at that point, is it worth buying? I dont know. To me, Id only buy one of these if I was loaded. This just seems like a waste

That thing is so hilariously outdated. I'd buy one that was a few years old at most.

I would totally rock a van converted to "camper" or a "Westfalia" European Van.
An RV? I would only rent one, but I bet it would be fun to go on a roadtrip with your partner.

My grandad worked for a period as a greyhound-style bus driver, and he bought two of the old busses and converted them to motorhomes. A Brill which looked like this:
and a Flxible, which looked like this:
He hasn't had either of them in decades, but my mom road tripped across the country in them as a kid.

I like them. My neighbor has a 30 foot Winnebago on the Ford chassis. Would be great for going to track days where they have camping facilities.
However, my issue is that they limit the towing capability, so I'd have to do some measurements in order to do it properly with that type of vehicle.
I want to see what Airstream does with the Ford Transit...I like their Sprinter conversion a lot, but I want to see what they do with the Ford.

Ive seen a few Transits driving around my area, both passenger and commercial, and Im really impressed. Id take the Transit Connect over virtually any minivan for instance. And im not a big fan of the blue oval (dons flamesuit)
So I too will be looking forward to that conversion. Because what they did for the E Series was rather lackluster.

Transit Connect is a great option. The E series, not having a factory high roof (requiring a cap) is a far less optimal solution than the Sprinter.
Since the Transit will have a price advantage over the Sprinter, that's why I'm a tad interested in it.
